A fire occurred at dawn on February 9 in an old train station in Barcelona caused rail chaos in the commuter train lines and Metro 1.
The station, which had not been used for a long time, was located under the Meridiana Avenue at the very foot of the National Theatre of Catalunya. The station was also planned to have a connection with the Marina metro station in Barcelona’s line 1, although it was never open to the public.
Because of the social turmoil raised by the fire, originated in an unused station, the railway company responsible for its maintenance asked Arson Invespaña S.L., in partnership with AFIS S.L., an investigation of the causes and origin of the fire.
After carrying out the research, the report concluded that the fire had started from a small fire resulting from a smoker accident, classifying it as an accidental fire.
